The IG are of major significance for research into Graeco-Roman antiquity, especially for historical, linguistic and cultural studies in their widest sense. The IG present a critical edition of all extant Greek inscriptions, ordered by individual regions and areas. The overall pattern was revised in 1903, and the project is now limited to the Greek mainland, the Aegean Islands and Italy.
Following the original tradition, the volumes are published in Latin. A number of supplementary volumes are published to take account of newly-discovered inscriptions, of which there are many, but updates are normally provided through new, revised editions (editiones alterae, tertiae).
Volumes available
There are 15 volumes, each consisting of a number of fascicles, and they are arranged as follows:
IG I-III: Attica
IG IV-VI: Peloponnese
IG VII-IX: Central Greece
IG X: Northern Greece
IG XI-XIII: Aegean Islands and Crete
IG XIV: Italy and Sicily
