New Publications Catalog Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies / History 2007/08

Dear Reader,

Cover NeuerscheinungsverzeichnisOur new subject catalog is a weighty matter, as you can tell, due to the many important and groundbreaking new publications that we would like to announce to you. The diverse selection of source texts, translations, commentaries and accompanying literature to assist text comprehension and analysis will certainly appeal to a large circle of interested readers.

New series published by leading international academics will highlight trends in current academic discussions and direct the user’s attention to the essentials. The Trends in Classics (p. 23 f ) will build yet another bridge between classical philology and its neighboring disciplines and present academic trends from the past to the present. The 2007 founded Transformationen der Antike (Transformations of Antiquity) demonstrates the high level of demand for academic publications that transcend the individual disciplines and build bridges to the modern day. We are pleased to be able to announce five new volumes in this catalog (p. 21 f ). A milestone will be reached with the new series Sozomena (p. 20 f ) which quite literally comprises 'saved' texts, which have been lying in wait up to now in libraries and universities. Their editing and interpretation was possible only due to the extraordinary circumstances of their discovery.

The robust and distinctive character of the former B. G. Teubner programme is upheld by its two mainstays: Thesaurus linguae Latinae (p. 25) and Bibliotheca Teubneriana (p. 13 ff). A significant progress in Homeric studies will be made by the commentaries on six further books of the Iliad which collaborators of the 'Basler Kommentar (BK)' will publish by the end of 2009 (p. 14 f ).
