New Publications Catalog Classical and Ancient Near Eastern Studies / History 2007/08
Dear Reader,
The humanities have always played an important
part in the program of the publishers Walter
de Gruyter, and it is our particular pleasure to
present here to all customers with an interest in
the ancient world the first specialist catalogue
combining the programs of Walter de Gruyter
and the old publishing house of B. G. Teubner. The result is a mass of scholarly material that will
be of great use both to the discipline itself and to
academics, libraries and booksellers.
In 2007 the Thesaurus linguae Latinae has taken another step towards its final goal with the completion of the letter P (p. 13). New volumes will also continue to be published in the Bibliotheca Teubneriana (p. 14ff.). The Byzantinische Zeitschrift and the Byzantinisches Archiv (p. 32ff.) are welcome additions to Walter de Gruyter’s important Byzantine program.
Editions of ancient philosophy are a particular focus of newly founded series this year. Access to early Greek philosophy is provided by Traditio Praesocratica, which follows a new editorial arrangement of individual volumes for each of the pre-Socratics (p. 26). The series Commentaria in Aristotelem Graeca et Byzantina (p. 24), which includes both monographs and editions of texts, is dedicated to classical and late-antique commentaries on Aristotle.
Philosophical and scientific works, which have not survived in the Greek original, but are preserved in the Arabic scholarly tradition, are the focus of a new series, Scientia Graeco-Arabica; the first volumes present the first complete edition of “Conics” by Apollonius of Perge (p. 25).
We would also like to draw your attention to
two new series, Transformation der Antike (p. 21)
and MythosEikonPoiesis (p. 20ff.). The Deutsches
Archäologisches Institut publishes its new
periodical Zeitschrift für Orientarchäologie with
de Gruyter (p. 7). A gem in the archaeological
program is Erika Zwierlein-Diehl’s book, Antike
Gemmen und ihr Nachleben (p. 5).
We hope that you will find many books in this
catalogue that are of use to you for both research
and teaching purposes, that through various forms
of cooperation with our house you will continue
to demonstrate your confidence in us, and that
every now and then you will take a look at the list
of books available.
