New Publications Catalog German, Romance and English Studies, Cultural Studies 2007/08
Dear Reader,
This catalogue is the first in which two leading
German academic publishers present their joint
programme in language and literary studies
after the publishing house of Walter de Gruyter
took over Max Niemeyer publishers in August
2006. The combination of these renowned
programmes from Berlin and Tübingen means
that we can now offer a collection of academic
titles in language and literary studies with a
breadth unmatched by any other publisher. It
now not only provides researchers and scholars
with our standard works from a single source,
but by combining our series and periodicals also
presents them with an attractive range of options
for publishing their work in our new overall
programme.
For H. U. Gumbrecht, ‘Philology is the preservation
of historical texts’ But perhaps it is more
than this – it is the preservation of our cultural
history; it opens, preserves and passes on the
documentary evidence of our written and
philosophical culture from the past and in the
present The two publishing houses of Walter de
Gruyter and Max Niemeyer with their long and
rich traditions have always provided the indispensable
foundations for this work, in particular
with their high-quality editions, dictionaries,
handbooks, encyclopaedias, monographs, bibliographies
and journals.
In this catalogue you will find the latest contributions from our joint publishing house in the fields of German Studies, Romance Studies, English Studies and Cultural Studies. The combined publishers remain committed to the soundly-based ‘preservation of historical texts’, eschewing the blandishments of short-lived fashions; with their new combined strength and the variety of their products they are determined to remain the partners and patrons of language and literary studies into the future.
We wish you stimulating reading.
