Biography
Michael Cameron grew up in Maywood, Illinois, outside Chicago. Since 2002 he has taught at the University of Portland in Oregon, where he teaches biblical introduction and the history of Christianity. His graduate training at the University of Chicago Divinity School began in New Testament before shifting to early Christian studies. He received his Ph.D. from Chicago after writing on Augustine’s Enarrationes in psalmos.  Michael’s chief areas of interest are Augustine studies, the history of Christian biblical exegesis, especially figurative exegesis, and the intersections of history, theology, and hermeneutics since the Enlightenment. His articles have been published in Studia Patristica, Augustinian Studies, Augustine through the Ages: An Encyclopedia, and the volumes Augustine: Biblical Exegete and Augustine and the Bible. He is currently completing a book manuscript on Augustine’s early figurative biblical interpretation, and working on an introductory anthology of extracts from the Enarrationes. Michael is married to Lorie Simmons, and is the father of two sons, Erik and Matthew.
