Biography
Peter Gemeinhardt was born in 1970. He studied theology at Marburg and Göttingen and took his doctoral degree in 2001 at Marburg University. Since 2003 he is ordained minister of the Protestant Church of Kurhessen-Waldeck. In the same year he moved to Jena University where his habilitation was accepted in 2006. Since 2007 he is Professor of Church History at the University of Göttingen. His fields of research include the patristic period as well as the medieval era. He specialises on the history of trinitarian theology (currently including the preparation of a handbook of Athanasius of Alexandria), on the Church’s life and institutions in late antiquity, on hagiographical literature and on the reception of the Church Fathers in later centuries, as well as on ecumenical studies. Since 2007, he is review editor of the Zeitschrift für Antikes Christentum (ZAC).
