Biography
Volker Leppin was born in 1966. He studied theology at Marburg, Jerusalem and Heidelberg from 1985-1999. He took his doctor’s degree at Heidelberg in 1994 and his Habilitation at Heidelberg 1997. Since 2000, he is professor for Church History at the Faculty of Theology at Jena, since 2006, he is ordinary member of the Saxonian Academy of Sciences.

The main topics of his research are the theology and spirituality of the Middle Ages - especially William of Ockham (Geglaubte Wahrheit, 1995; Wilhelm von Ockham, 2003) - and of the Reformation area (Antichrist und Juengster Tag, 1999, Reformation 2005, Martin Luther, forthcoming 2006).

He is editor of the Zeitschrift für Kirchengeschichte, Archa Verbi. Yearbook of the international Society for the Study of Medieval Theology, Theology and Faith, Arbeiten zur Kirchen- und Theologiegeschichte, Studien zur christlichen Religions- und Kulturgeschichte, Kirchen- und Theologiegeschichte in Quellen, and was member of the Editorial Board of the Theologische Realenzyklopädie.

Awards: Ruprecht-Karls-Preis 1995 (University of Heidelberg); Hanns-Lilje-Preis 1996 (Academy of Sciences at Goettingen); Gerhard Hess-Förderpreis 1999 (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft/German Research Foundation)
