Biography
Eric Ziolkowski received his BA at Dartmouth College, and his MA and PhD in religion and literature at the University of Chicago. After teaching in the University of Chicago’s Basic Program of Liberal Education for Adults (1984–87), he taught as visiting assistant professor in Comparative Literature at the University of Wisconsin–Madison (1987–88). He then proceeded to Lafayette College, Easton, Pennsylvania, where he has taught ever since in the Department of Religious Studies (1988–).
As the Charles A. Dana Professor of Religious Studies at Lafayette, he is also Head of his Department. He is author of The Sanctification of Don Quixote: From Hidalgo to Priest and Evil Children in Religion, Literature, and Art, editor of A Museum of Faiths: Histories and Legacies of the 1893 World’s Parliament of Religions and Literature, Religion, and East/West Comparison: Essays in Honor of Anthony C. Yu, and author of numerous journal articles and book chapters. Having served as consultant for Encyclopedia of Religion, 2nd ed. (Macmillan), he is North American general editor of Literature and Theology (Oxford) and consultant for The Journal of Religion (Chicago). He has lectured at conferences around the United States as well as in Great Britain, Poland, Sweden, Australia, and by invitation at a number of American universities. The recipient of awards for teaching and scholarship at Lafayette, he is also Life Fellow in the New York-based Society for the Arts, Religion, and Contemporary Culture (elected 1999).
