Neuerscheinungsverzeichnis Mouton de Gruyter 2007/08

NeuerscheinungsverzeichnisLast year, our catalog featured the Varieties of English, and we are proud to announce that the four text-books plus an interactive CD will soon be available to your students (see opposite). But that’s not all we have to offer: This year, we would also like to introduce your students to Latin.

"Boring but necessary stuff for most students in the humanities" is what most of you would probably answer. Well, help is on the way. Our newest e-project Latinum Electronicum (LE), available in a multilingual version (German, French, and Italian, with an English version in the making) is the first interactive learner’s course for Latin. The course offers more than 400 exercises, a vocabulary trainer, a complete printable introduction to Latin grammar, vocabulary lists … in short: everything that will enable your university to teach Latin effectively while eliminating the boredom-factor.

Alongside the Latinum Electronicum (p. 3), Mouton is expanding its product-line of interactive teaching and reference materials with The Mouton Interactive Introduction to the Historical Linguistics of German (p. 2) and The Mouton Interactive Introduction to Historical Linguistics of English in preparation (p. 4). Also see our recent publications Atlas of North American English and Varieties of English (p. 5). Log on to www.mouton-online.com and register for 28 days of free trial access to the above-mentioned online materials.

This in no way means that Mouton is saying good-bye to the classic printed work. The launching of the Handbook Series on Applied Linguistics (HAL) in nine volumes (p. 6); the long-awaited Collected Works of Edward Sapir Volume I (p. 11); and the foundation of the Mouton Series in Pragmatics
(p. 13), edited by Istvan Kecskes, who is also the editor of our successful new journal Intercultural Pragmatics (p. 30), proves just that. However, we at Mouton see the advantages the development of electronic media has brought (especially) to linguistics and we are eager to develop this path
alongside our print products to provide our authors, editors, and readers with the best of both worlds.

Finally, we would like to draw your attention to an announcement about our continued and enhanced cooperation with Atypon Systems. Based on their technology we will create an improved delivery platform for our electronic products. The platform – to be launched in January 2008 – offers users e-journal, e-book, and other online content all accessible on a single user interface with cutting-edge web 2.0 functionality. This will make it easier for the user not only to find the right content but also to explore the wider context of these publications.

Cordial greetings on behalf of all of us at Mouton (see p. 41),

MOUTON DE GRUYTER
Dr. Anke Beck
