Abstract
The first part of the article deals with the methodology informing the new, »revisionist« approaches to the history of ancient Israel, especially the works produced by the »Copenhagen School« and P.R. Davies. It uncovers the assumptions underlying their attitude towards the ancient witnesses and their view of the relation between textual and archaeological sources, making constant reference to the epistemological discussion in philosophy and history. The »revisionist« approach is contrasted with the methods employed by ancient historians and archaeologists, with the discussion centring on the concepts of »text« and »artifact«. II Reg 22f. is then made the object of a case study demonstrating the relationship between literary and archaeological sources and adequate ways of making use of both.

La première partie de l'article se consacre à la méthodologie des nouvelles approches »révisionistes« quant à l'étude de l'histoire de l'Israël antique, spécialement des travaux de l' »école de Copenhague« et de P.R. Davies. Dévoilant leurs présupposés quant aux témoignages anciens et leur conception quant aux relations entre sources écrites et archéologiques, l'A. fait constamment référence au débat épistémologique correspondant en philosophie et en recherche historique. Il oppose l'attitude »révisioniste« à celle des archéologues et des historiens de l'Antiquité, en centrant la discussion sur les notions de »texte« et d'»artéfact«; un cas-type en est II Reg 22f., qui montre les relations entre sources littéraires et archéologiques, ainsi que le bon usage avec les deux.
Abstract
Der erste Teil des Artikels widmet sich der Methodologie, die die neuen »revisionistischen« Ansätze der Erforschung der Geschichte des alten Israel, besonders die von der »Kopenhagener Schule« und P.R. Davies vorgelegten Arbeiten, durchzieht. Er deckt die Annahmen auf, die ihrer Einstellung gegenüber den antiken Zeugnissen und ihrer Auffassung der Beziehung zwischen schriftlichen und archäologischen Quellen zugrunde liegen, wobei durchgängig auf die epistemologische Diskussion in Philosophie und Geschichtswissenschaft Bezug genommen wird. Der »revisionistische« Ansatz wird den von Althistorikern und Archäologen angewandten Methoden gegenübergestellt, wobei die Diskussion auf die Konzepte »Text« und »Artefakt« zentriert ist. II Reg 22f. wird schließlich zum Objekt einer Fallstudie gemacht, die die Beziehungen zwischen literarischen und archäologischen Quellen und eine angemessene Art des Umgangs mit beiden aufzeigt.
