Aims & Scope

JIBL is a scholary journal dealing with the legal implications of the latest developments in the sphere of biotechnology and genetic engineering. Its intention is to serve commercial advisors and decision-makers within the enterprises. Naturally, the legal institutions‘ need for information dealing with matters of patent law and copyright (law courts, solicitors operating nationwide/international) will be taken into account as well. High-quality scientific essays, combined with to-the-point abstracts giving a quick yet comprehensive insight into aspects of the law concerning biotechnology and genetic engineering. These contents will be supplemented by a summary of the latest developments in the fields of law and science (medical studies, research). The journal will be concluded with reflections from the points of view of different countries. Further elements include an introductory editorial and a personality report.

The „Editorial“ briefly outlines the contents of the journal. The „Newsletter“ contains abstracts of the latest legal (mainly regulatory) developments in the fields of biotechnology and genetic engineering. „Articles“ refers to comparatively detailed discussions of contemporary legal problems, whereas in „Notes“ subjects are dealt with in an appropriately short fashion. This structuring was chosen in order to give decision-makers access to relevant information in the shortest possible time.

In „Law Report“ current and especially relevant decisions of diverse law courts are represented respectively (in abridged versions). „Science/Technology Report“ outlines innovations in the natural sciences to which law has yet to react; the knowledge of which is therefore of the greatest interest to readers dealing with legal decisions. „Country Report“ presents the latest legal developments in a selected country; here, mainly the relevant industrial nations and countries representing interesting future markets will be dealt with regularly. Concerning their contents the categories „Seminar Report“ and „Book Review“ speak for themselves. Finally, „Personality“ will introduce the reader to a chosen personality from the area of politics, economy or science by way of a questionnaire.
