Instructions for Authors
INSTRUCTIONS FOR AUTHORS
General information. Original papers in the fields of rock mechanics, drilling, mechanical preparation and associated with mining domains of: ventilation, geology, chemistry, economics and construction, which have not been published in other journals are accepted to the quarterly „Archives of Mining Sciences” (Archiwum Górnictwa) published by Polish Academy of Sciences. By submission of the paper Author cedes to the editors the rights to publish the paper both in printed and electronic form. There is no honorarium for articles appearing in „Archives of Mining Sciences”. Authors are entitled to 1 free issues. Authors are requested to send the following detailed information: name (first and last), degree, academic title, name and address of work‑place and home address. Telephone and fax numbers are also requested along with an e-mail address.
Language. The papers are printed in English.
Length. The article may not exceed 20 typewritten pages, format A4. The article should be sent in two printed copies and on a CD disc with the article as Microsoft World file with all drawings, pictures and tables placed in the text.
Layout of the transcript. First and last name(s) of the author(s), title of the article, abstract, keywords, methodology and introduction to the topics, results, conclusions, acknowledgements and references. Drawings and tables with captions should be inserted in relevant places of the text. Polish speaking authors are requested to provide abstract, keywords and captions both in Polish and English. The subtitles should conform to the decimal system of numbering.
Abstracts. Two abstracts are required: one of them short, the other one comprising 2-3 type‑script pages assigned for Polish translation. The abstract should refer to appropriate formulas, figures and tables.
Keywords. 4-6 keywords should appear under the abstract, if possible in Polish and English.
Formulae. Formulae should be prepared with Microsoft Equation, written clearly with distinct notation of upper and lower indices and parentheses, maintaining an uniform numbering.
Tables. Tables should be inserted in relevant places of the Microsoft World file.
Figures. If possible, the figures should be prepared with a vector graphics software (cdr, wmf, al or dxf formats) or as *.eps. Use Arial font for the comments on drawings. The photographs should be converted to high resolution scans in *.jpg or *.tiff format. Drawings and tables with captions should be inserted in relevant places of the text. Providing files in original format will be appreciated.
References. A bibliography without numbering, arranged alphabetically according to the author’s last name, should include all positions to which the author refers in the text. In case of more than one article from the same year, the articles should be differentiated as follows: 1985a, 1985b, etc. The following order is required: last name and initials of all co-authors, year, title, type of publications, (journal, conference material, collection of monograph articles, unpublished texts) with the page numbers used.
Quoting references. If name(s) of the author(s) is not contained within the text itself, it should be provided in parentheses. e.g.: (Brandt, 1993), (Crosdale & Beamish, 1994). (Dziurzynski et al., 1990) in the case of one, two or more than two authors, respectively. If the name(s) of the author(s) is included in the text, then the reference should be cited as follows e.g.: „According to Brandt (1993)...”
