This paper argues that the last three decades of Medieval Literary Studies have seen a successful synthesis of philology and theoretically-oriented cultural studies, two fields which are often seen as distinct. This fruitful disciplinary connection is illustrated by three recent research topics in Medieval Studies: the concept of medieval textuality, the peculiarity of medieval narrative and the specificity of premodern ways of thinking.
