Today, literary criticism / studies and historical science are a lot less divided in their specific methods and in their epistemological aims than in the last quarter of the 20th century. This has diminished excitement about the relation of the two disciplines. This paper presents ›cultural patterns‹ as long term hyphenations of concepts, forms of representation, and practices as a possibility for a new way to combine expertise from both literary studies and historical science.
