Starting with the on-going debate on theoretical and methodological foundations of a discipline called ›cultural studies‹ or ›Kulturwissenschaft‹, this essay outlines some practical consequences of the so-called ›cultural turn‹ for research programs in the humanities and literary studies: actor-oriented perspectives, interdisciplinary and transitional approaches, new frameworks for analyzing communicative practices and functions of literature.
