Zusammenfassung
Der Verfasser definiert die Modernisierung der Religion als die ernste Auseinandersetzung der Religion mit den großen Problemen der heutigen Welt, im Dialog mit Ethik und Wissenschaft. Dieser Artikel dokumentiert diesen Vorgang in der heutigen Katholische Kirche. Gedrängt von einer von Gott gewollten universalen Solidarität, fordert die Kirche eine Wirtschaftsordnung, die dem Gemeinwohl der Menschheit dient: so plädiert sie für das Wohl der Immigranten und Flüchtlingen, so bejaht sie den neuen religiösen Pluralismus in den westlichen Ländern, so unterstützt sie die Bewegung, die Umwelt zu schützen, so stellt sie sich gegen Krieg und militärisches Eingreifen, und so setzt sie dem amerikanischen Unilateralismus den von den Vereinigten Nationen vorgeschlagenen Multilateralismus entgegen.
Abstract
The modernisation of religion is defined in this article as the effort of religion, in dialogue with ethics and the sciences, to wrestle with the problems of the contemporary world. This article documents that this effort is taking place in the Catholic Church. Thanks to God's call for universal solidarity, the Catholic Church favours an economic order that serves the common good of humanity; it pleads for greater justice regarding immigrants and refugees; it respects the new religious pluralism in theWest, supports the ecological movement, opposes wars and armed interventions, and favours the worldwide multilateralism proposed by the United Nations over the unilateralism preferred by the United States.
