Aims and Scope

Klio is one of the oldest journals in the German Altertumswissenschaften. It publishes articles on the history of ancient Greece and Rome, including their relations to the ancient Near East, and also covers specialist areas such as epigraphy, papyrology, archaeology, and numismatics. Brief book reviews and a list of books received provide an overview of the latest publications in the field.

KLIO – Information for our Authors

In accordance with its tradition, KLIO understands ancient history in the widest possible sense, covering in particular also the history of Egypt, the ancient Near East, and other neighboring cultures. It also applies to important related disciplines, especially archaeology. The focus, however, is on Greek and Roman history. The languages of publication are German, English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The journal publishes articles as well as book reviews.

The editors ask authors to observe the following guidelines for manuscript preparation:
Only works that are not published anywhere else can be accepted for publication.
The manuscript should be submitted by e-mail in DOC or PDF format. Comments should be at the end. We request an abstract in the language of the article as well as in English.

The manuscript must contain the following information at the beginning:
Line 1: full name of the author (location)
Line 2: title of the work
Line 3: email address of the author (will be included in the publication and is used for delivery of proofs)
Line 4: keywords

Notes, Illustrations, and Drawings
Notes are to be numbered beginning with 1.
Illustrations should be submitted in JPG format with a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (line drawings 1200 dpi). All illustrations are to be submitted with the manuscript in separate, consecutively numbered files. Copyright must be observed and publication rights must be obtained by the author.

References should follow the format below:
Journals: author (initial, last name), title of the article, journal title and volume, year, page number stating the first and last page.
Monographs: author (initial, last name), title (Series title), city and year, page number.
Journal titles should be abbreviated according to L’Année Philologique, Latin and Greek authors and works according to Der neue Pauly.

Major changes to the text in the proofs cannot be considered. Corrections are to be marked in the text and written in the margin.

Authors will obtain a PDF file of their publication.
