Kultura i Spoleczenstwo

“Kultura i Społeczeństwo” [Culture and Society] is a journal of the Committee of Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, affiliated at the Institute of Political Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. It is an interdisciplinary quarterly of long tradition. The journal was established by eminent Polish sociologist Józef Chałasiński in 1956, i.e. in the wake of post-October political thaw. The more than five-decades history of “Kultura i Społeczeństwo” reflects very well the history of post-war sociology  and humanities in Poland, as well as the history of the whole society.
From the very beginning the journal focused on culture and its different aspects and dimension, but its  program was not limited to the sociology of culture and to sociological papers; on the contrary, a comprehensive interdisciplinary profile is its another crucial trait.  “Kultura i Społeczeństwo” publishes papers written by sociologists, historians, philosophers, anthropologists, political scientists, literature specialists, and others. Antonina Kłoskowska, eminent sociologist of culture, specialist in national identity problems, author of many books and editor-in-chief of “Kultura i Społeczeństwo” in 1983 – 2001 formed the final profile of the journal. In addition to the focus on culture, its unity and diversity and to interdisciplinary perspective in approaching these phenomena she introduced the rule of thematic uniformity of each issue. Monothematic issues are attractive for the readers.
