Aims and Scope
Since its founding in 1956, Lebende Sprachen [Living Languages] has been the leading German journal for foreign languages in research and practice. It contains articles and reviews on language in general and also covers topics on specific languages and cultures, living languages and the life of language. The spectrum of topics includes interlingual phenomena such as diverse facets of translating and interpreting in theory and practice as well as various aspects of translation studies. Furthermore, the journal focuses on intralingual issues in applied linguistics and e.g. in sociolinguistics such as the change of text type and discourse conventions. Glossaries have always been a traditional feature of Lebende Sprachen: From 2011 on they will no longer appear in print but will be published exclusively in the online edition. Lebende Sprachen is directed at professionals such as translators, interpreters, linguists, philologists, lexicologists, terminologists and students of these fields.
