Abstract
The Pseudo-Macarian Spiritual Homily 42, collection H (= Logos 14, collection B) betrays its author's knowledge of the Syriac version of the Abgar-Legend and accordingly demonstrates the deep impact Syriac Christianity had upon Pseudo-Macarius' writings. The Abgar-tradition is adapted here in order to emphasize the ascetic's utter rejection of the art of rhetoric and ancient philosophy.
