Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und vorderasiatische Archäologie

Ed. by Sallaberger, Walther

Together with Cavigneaux, Antoine / van den Hout, Theo / Otto, Adelheid

2 Issues per year

ERIH category INT2

Aims and Scope

The Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und Vorderasiatische Archäologie publishes papers and reviews from the field of Ancient Eastern Philology (languages covered include Sumerian, Akkadian, Hittite, Hurrian, Elamite), and religious, legal, economic and social history, together with Middle Eastern archaeology and art history. The main geographical areas covered are Mesopotamia, Northern Syria, Anatolia, Ancient Armenia and Elam, i.e. areas in which cuneiform script was used at certain periods; some attention is also paid to more remote fringe areas. The period covered encompasses the fourth to first millenia B. C. The review section deals primarily with monographs; edited volumes and festschrifts mainly receive short reviews.

Supplementary Materials

Instructions for Authors

Please follow the following instructions while preparing a manuscript for the Zeitschrift für Assyriologie und Vorderasiatische Archäologie:

  1. The editor requests that all manuscripts be sent directly to him. Manuscripts should be typewritten - pages typed on one side only, double spaced (all manuscripts prepared using a word processor, computer, or any other electronic device should also follow these guidelines). Spacing should be indicated by an underlining red line; small caps by a double green line; caps by using caps without any further marking; italics by a blue wavy line. All manuscripts using an electronic device should be prepared by following these guidelines, please do not format the fonts into the manuscript.
  2. Since a special abbreviation list for the ZA can no longer be compiled (the last version appeared in volume 44/1938), please refer to one of the more commonly used abbreviation lists from either W. von Soden, Akkadisches Handwörterbuch, or the list provided by the Chicago Assyrian Dictionary. In cases where archaeological works or works covering Asia Minor call for additional abbreviations, these should be selected according to a renowned standard, citing the appropriate list or otherwise being separately clarified in a footnote.
  3. For illustrations within the text, the manuscript has to be accompanied by reproducible drawings and reproducible photographs. Computer-generated illustrations will not be accepted.
  4. Once the manuscript has been typeset, only very minor corrections will be taken into consideration due to the amount of time, work, and costs involved in delaying the production process, as well as, the publication of the journal itself. Once the proofs are available for correction, only small amendments at the end of a paragraph or at the end of a footnote are possible. The guidelines of the DUDEN are binding in regard to any corrections.
  5. A royalty will not be paid. However, authors are entitled to 30 offprints of their article (20 offprints of a review).
  6. Any subsequent publication of an article or an illustration during the legal protection period after it has been published in the ZA requires the written consent of the editor and the publisher.
