Abstract

In a footnote to phrases such as ‘einzelne Ausdrücke’, ‘ähnliche Worte’, and particularly to ‘einzelne Worte und Wortformeln’, found in the text of his Vom Erlöser der Menschen, nach unsern drei ersten Evangelien (Riga 1796, § 4.3), Johann Gottfried Herder (1744–1803) illustrated from an unascribed quotation the extravagant praise paid to parallel-driven scholarship.
