Friedrich Schlegels philosophische Lehrjahre

Untersuchungen zu den Traditionsbezügen und Innovationen der Frühromantik

[Friedrich Schlegel’s Philosophical Apprenticeship Years. Studies on the References to Tradition and Innovations of Early Romanticism]

Series:Frühe Neuzeit 157

    Aims and Scope

For the first time in about one hundred years, this study presents a new source-based intellectual biography of the young Friedrich Schlegel. Methodically, the biographer follows the “constellation research” project on post-Kantian and Early Romantic philosophy initiated by Dieter Henrich and Manfred Frank. Contrary to the current trend of research to interpret Friedrich Schlegel as an ironical thinker or skeptic, here his development is interpreted from the traditions of the early modern period. The study is directed toward both Germanists and philosophers and also provides new information in the sources part for further comparative research on the Schlegel brothers.
