    Aims and Scope

The central subject of the commentary on Book 9 is the interpretation of the embassy that the Greek army sent to Achilles in order to persuade him and his elite troops, the Myrmidons, to end their boycott of the hostilities, as well as the question of why the narrator allows all three ambassadors to fail in their efforts.
