A Regional View
Ed. by Máté-Tóth, András
Series:Religion and Society
Aims and Scope
Different religions and churches in the central and eastern part of Europe influence the societies after the fall of communism and play a crucial role in culture, politics, social networks and value transformations. More than 70 researchers of 15 countries of the region analysed and discussed the most important tendencies of values, religions and religious communities and present the most actual findings in a comparative way. They tested well-known theories of secularisation, nationalism, democracy and pluralism in the colourful region Central and Eastern Europe.
The book summarises the most important findings of the REVACERN (Religion and Values in Central and Eastern Europe Research Network) project – supported by the 6th framework program of the EU – in 7 chapters: Religion and Values; Religion and Education; Legal Regulation of Churches and Religious Communities; Orthodoxy in Eastern Europe; Religion and Civil Cociety; Religion and Nationalism; New Religious Movements and New Forms of Religiosity. All chapters provide a regional overview.
