Rhode, Ulrich / Rüfner, Wolfgang

Kirchliche Hochschulen

Referate des Symposiums zu Ehren von Manfred Baldus am 19. März 2010

[Faith-Based Universities]

    Aims and Scope

Faith-based universities as educational facilities not under state sponsorship are subject to Church and State regulations. Theological faculties at state-run universities must also adhere to both State and Church rules. This volume explains the concept and entity of faith-based, particularly Catholic, universities in two essays and explains their position in terms of both the State’s and the Church’s regulatory network. Rüfner addresses the relationship between faith-based universities and state-run universities, while the contribution by Rhode focuses on canon law, more specifically the canon law of the Catholic Church.
Both contributions are based on lectures conducted by the authors in March 2010 at a symposium held in honor of Professor Dr. Manfred Baldus, Presiding Judge of the Regional Court, renowned canon-law expert and longstanding publisher of the collection of decisions “KirchE”.
