Aims and Scope
These volumes represent the extensive edition of the letters which Bertolt Brecht received during his years in exile (1933‑1949), including letters from famous philosophers, writers and artists such as Walter Benjamin, Arnold Zweig, Lion Feuchtwanger, Ernst Bloch, George Grosz, Erwin Piscator, Heinrich and Thomas Mann. The letters are an important source for the understanding of the literary and intellectual history of the period, documenting in detail European and American intellectual life in the World War II era. The edition includes an introduction, commentaries and indices and is of great interest to literary scholars as well as to historians and cultural studies scholars.
