Hermann Brochs Gesamtwerk

Neue Studien und Berichte

[Hermann Broch: Life, Works, Impact]

Ed. by Kessler, Michael / Lützeler, Paul Michael

    • The work undertakes an intensive examination of all of Broch’s literary production based on the latest research, and contextualizes his central essayistic subjects and works.

    Aims and Scope

With his multi-faceted literary works, the Austrian-American author Hermann Broch (1886-1951) was one of the most innovative German-language writers of the first half of the 20th century, and a major figure in world literature. He also generated important critical writings on literature, philosophy, and politics, as well as thousands of letters. The present volume, created in collaboration with an international team of scholars, introduces the time horizon of Broch’s life history along with his entire literary and essayistic oeuvre, analyzes it in its relevant contexts, and offers a new assessment of its importance. The volume is further enhanced by autobiographical material, letters, a list of Broch’s important contacts, stages in the reception of his work, and an extensive research bibliography covering the period from 1985 to 2011.
