Aims and Scope
The application of the Rome II Regulation on January 11, 2009 significantly unifies the provisions of non-contractual obligations under private international law in the European Union. Within the scope of its application, the Rome II Regulation supersedes Articles 38 to 42 EGBGB (Einführungsgesetz zum Bürgerlichen Gesetzbuch / Introductory Act to the German Civil Code). This volume contains the first comprehensive commentary on the new regulations and also includes foreign judicature to aid interpretation. In addition, it discusses in detail pertinent international conventions (for example, in the fields of transport law or environmental liability) as well as the regulations of private international law within their residual scope of application.
