Platon lehren und lernen
Der Philosophieunterricht in der Spätantike
[Teaching and Learning Plato - Philosophical Education in Late Antiquity]
Series:Quellen und Studien zur Philosophie
Aims and Scope
In philosophy teaching in Late Antiquity, the unity of teaching and research and the holistic nature of education are not just abstract ideals. This book presents their realisation in philosophy teaching in Late Antiquity and thus examines the historical basis of a conception of education which determined school and university education in Europe from classical times, through the whole of the Middle Ages and up to the beginnings of our university system. Hitherto unknown commentaries on Plato are presented in detail and in German translation for the first time.
