The challenge of researching the history of religion is to interpret source texts in context and to consider their theoretical explanation in relation to a critical view of the resulting knowledge itself from a historical perspective. The RGVV [History of Religion: Essays and Preliminary Studies] series aims to accommodate this interplay between the complementary aspects of historical context, theoretical concretization and position within different disciplines. It includes studies on culture-specific factual associations and comparative work presented both as monographs and in the form of anthologies focussing on particular topics.
