The Reception of Horace in the Renaissance: Strategies of Horace Commentary in Cristoforo Landino and Denis Lambin

Strategien der Horazkommentierung bei Cristoforo Landino und Denis Lambin

The study compares the Horace commentaries by Cristoforo Landino and Denis Lambin, who took diametrically different approaches in their readings of Horace, the subject of their Renaissance era commentaries. It casts light on the commentaries and the reception of Horace during the Renaissance as well as on the work of two outstanding scholars of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries.

"Stadeler’s introduction offers a valuable conspectus of existing scholarship on the reception of Horace during this crucial period, and her own study provides a useful and important point of entry to the wider world of Renaissance Horatianism."L. B. T. Houghton in: Gnomon Bd. 89 (2017), S. 660-662
