Publoris: De Gruyter and MyBestseller Launch an Innovative Academic Self-Publishing Service

October 7, 2014

Publoris (www.publoris.com) is a new service for academic self-publishing that is geared especially toward the needs of young academics. Developed in a partnership between De Gruyter and MyBestseller, the service allows authors to publish their manuscripts quickly, easily, and inexpensively, and is thus an ideal complement to traditional routes for publication.

"The rise of digital content is rapidly changing the publication needs of academics," says Dr. Sven Fund, Managing Director of De Gruyter. "With the launch of Publoris we are testing a new type of service that places a key emphasis on functionality."
"In recent years self-publishing has developed into a serious market trend in the field of literature," says Pierre Vroomen, Director of MyBesteller. "We have been active in this business segment for a long time, and see clearly that researchers have different needs than novel writers. So we're greatly looking forward to the results of this partnership with De Gruyter."

In service packages that are customized to the needs of academics, Publoris is offering a plagiarism check feature as well as print-on-demand, eBook, and Open Access publishing options. MyBestseller is providing the technology and is also managing distribution and billing. The author can determine the price for his or her publication, and receives a transparent share of the proceeds from the very first copy sold. For marketing purposes customers also receive a dedicated author's homepage.
