De Gruyter enters exclusive journals partnership with Maruzen-Yushodo for Japan

De Gruyter and Maruzen-Yushodo have entered into an exclusive sales and distribution partnership for all subscription journals owned and distributed by the Berlin-based publisher, with effect from the 2020 subscription year. Under the arrangement, Maruzen-Yushodo will assume responsibility for promoting De Gruyter’s Portfolio of 345 subscription journals and yearbooks to the Japanese academic, government and corporate markets, as well as for gathering and processing renewals, on an exclusive basis.

Commenting on the Agreement, De Gruyter’s Sales Director for Asia Pacific, Tony Ng, said: “We are delighted to be entering into an exclusive partnership with Maruzen-Yushodo. As a leading Japanese subscription agent with broad coverage of the market and an excellent reputation for service, we are confident that our subscribers will see significant benefits from this move, and that together we can reach more customers and expand the market for De Gruyter’s excellent content in Japan.”

Yuji Sanui, Head of International Business for Maruzen-Yushodo, said: “We have been in discussion with De Gruyter for some time, and are extremely delighted to come to this Agreement on the exclusive partnership. De Gruyter and Maruzen-Yushodo will work together to ensure a seamless transition to the new arrangements for journals subscribers and subscription agents in Japan, more details of which will be available shortly.
