The Art History program has a relatively young tradition compared to other departments at De Gruyter. Based on Allgemeines Künstlerlexikon published by De Gruyter since 2006, 2011 marked the beginning of the development of the program area, which from its inception had an international orientation.

After the integration of the Akademie Verlag in 2013, today De Gruyter is a leading specialist publishing house for art historical publications in Germany, and the art historical program is well-known for its high-quality content and broad range.
