Special Issue of Automation in Finland 2019 – The 23rd National Biannual Automation Conference

This issue contains selected and revised papers presented at the national biannual automation conference in Oulu Finland 15-16 May 2019 arranged by the Finnish Automation Society. The papers deal all aspects of automation from control theory to case studies of industrial automation applications. They give a good overview of the different academic and industrial activities related to modern automation in the fields of process, factory and production automation as well as digitalization. The program contains presentations from both the industrial and the scientific worlds. The conference is a fantastic forum for networking between educational, research and business sectors. In 2019 conference, the focus is in combining ICT and automation solutions.

Selected papers discuss real-time measurement technologies, machine vision, communication and control design by utilizing, data analytics, digital twins and cloud computing. Application areas include autonomous machines, robotics, sustainable energy, building automation, steel and forest industry.
