Prof. Dr. J. Alberto Conejero, Instituto de Matemática Pura y Aplicada (IUMPA-UPV), Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain

Some of the last advances in engineering and information sciences depend on great part on new mathematical models and their applications. Nowadays, the exponential increase of available data requires of suitable models. There are not only conceived to just perform an efficient data processing and management. They are needed to make fast and accurate estimations and predictions from these data, to estimate the quality of the data, and to evaluate the adequacy of the underlying infrastructure generating and supporting them.

This issue will have the aim of presenting some relevant applications of discrete mathematics, in particular of graph theory and combinatorics, in problems arising in computer science, life and social sciences, and engineering. We will also consider how mathematical methods can contribute to a suitable processing of information obtained from these problems. Submitted manuscripts should meet high standards of exposition and clearly indicate what is the mathematical contribution in the work.

  • Discrete mathematics, with special interest in graph theory and combinatorial methods.
  • Mathematical methods in information science, data science, data quality analysis.
  • Mathematical modelling of nonlinear dynamics problems.
  • Mathematical approaches to internet-based, multimedia, wireless networks, and communication problems.
  • Interdisciplinary applications of mathematics to computer science, engineering and biology.
