The social, media, and technical contours of our present moment transform the spectacular structure of the theatre. This view widens for the contexts of the theatre: public spaces and neighbouring art forms, media, and technologies. The contributions in this volume pursue the extent to which these contexts are abandoning thinking about concepts of the scene, performance, plot and participation, as well as the history and the time of theatre. As a result, the title of the book should not be understood programmatically; instead, we find a mosaic of self-questioning of theatre studies in relation to its subjects.
