3. Politisch-rhetorische Theorie und Praxis bei den Römern (Cicero, Rhetorica ad Herennium, Seneca d. Ältere, Quintilian)

From the book Handbuch Politische Rhetorik

  • Stefan Feddern

Abstract

The following overview of Roman political-rhetorical theory and practice comprises - after a short consideration of Greek rhetorical theory (chapter 1) - the time between Cicero (106-43 BCE) and Quintilian (c. 35-after 95 CE) (chapter 2). The chapters represent primarily a systematical approach, but inside each chapter, the presentation follows chronological aspects: chapter 2.1: The political speech inside the three kinds of speeches; chapter 2.2: The goal of the political speech; chapter 2.3: The Topoi of argumentation.
