Abstract
While rhetoric regularly attracted the criticism of poets and philosophers in the past, it must nevertheless be seen as having a firm place in literature. Indeed, the phenomenon of (political) rhetoric in literature may be observed from numerous research perspectives, but in particular semiotic, pragmatic, and narratological approaches offer instruments to evaluate the place of rhetoric in literature. We may assume that literary creation generally contains rhetorical components, and especially the art of poetry usually pursues a rhetorical goal which is often motivated by political reasons.
