48. Die politische Rede in den Niederlanden

Christoph Sauer

Abstract

Although in the Netherlands little attention is paid to great political speechmaking, a certain interest in rhetoric nevertheless may still be observed - even through or because of increasing disenchantment with politics. Rhetoric and associated topics can be found increasingly at the universities, as well as in publications. Consequently, the relationship between eloquence in the practice of preaching and rhetoric has to be considered as well. Generally, only on special occasions, whether positive or negative, are (epideictic) speeches delivered: it is this tendency that produced some examples that will be examined. Then, the recent discussion about the „best“ Dutch speeches is touched upon. Finally, the current topic of the transformation of the rhetorical in new media contexts will be dealt with in some detail.
