Lydia, known as the country ruled by the wealthy King Croesus, has been treated until now as a somewhat barbaric appendix of Greece. This work compares the “Lydian Logos” of Herodotus with information from other Greek sources and Lydian inscriptions. Events reported by Herodotus are compared with texts from across the Near East. This allows Herodotus to be verified and corrected in many respects, thus presenting a new picture of Lydia.
