Abstract
The Libraries for Everyone/Herkes için Kütüphane Project commenced in Turkey in 2016. Funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Global Libraries Initiative, the main goal of the project was that municipal public libraries become centres to support the lifelong learning of local citizens, particularly those who belong to disadvantaged segments of society. Libraries are invited to join the project which offers collaborative opportunities. There is a key role in the project for the Turkish Library Association/Türk Kütüphaneciler Derneği’ (TLA/ TKD) and the sustainability of the project is especially important for the future of librarianship in Turkey. Partnerships created between the local government and the branches of the Turkish Library Association are expected to enhance the e-transformation efforts of Turkey. An overview of public libraries in Turkey is provided and the achievements of the project outlined.
