Against Paraconsistentism

Alan Musgrave

Once upon a time it was thought that inconsistent theories are no good - they are false and they explain nothing because “From a contradiction everything follows” (‘Explosion’). Contemporary logical wisdom (Relevantism, Dialethism, Paraconsistentism) has outgrown these traditional views - it turns out that contradictions can be true and Explosion is mistaken. I defend the traditional views.
