6. Fuzzy transportation problems and variants

Abstract

The given chapter focuses on the notion of fuzzy theory used to optimize transportation problem. The emergence of transportation problem and its types have been explained along with the concept of linear programming problem. The implementation of fuzzy theory into transportation problem has been proved to be a boon in the area of decision making. Researchers have worked substantially in this field and have evolved imperative techniques to solve it. Some of the ranking techniques established by esteemed scholars have been elucidated here. Types of the fuzzy transportation problem inclusive of their characteristics have been explained. Also, several variants of fuzzy transportation based upon membership function as well as classical approach have been described.
