Abstract
Experiencing the challenges of dementia was the key aim of the Sensual Fake project. Feelings of helplessness, denial and shame often make it difficult for people with in the early stages of dementia to accept what is happening to them. Those who are in close contact with such individuals, or who have no contact with dementia at all, can find it hard to imagine what this feels like, to misplace things constantly or not to remember what people are called. As we mature, we constantly learn how to communicate, how to use tools, how to interact with our environment and we develop confidence in our senses. But what must it be like to experience the opposite? With the objects developed in the Sensual Fake series, people are challenged to question their senses and experience some of the emotions that people living with dementia go through every day.
