Die Exzellenzinitiative hat eine Debatte darüber entfacht, was Spitzenleistungen und exzellente Institutionen in der Wissenschaft eigentlich sind. Anhand der wichtigsten Kriterien im Exzellenzwettbewerb (Sichtbarkeit, Qualität, Internationalität und Gleichstellung) wird der Frage nachgegangen, welche methodischen Probleme sich bei der Operationalisierung stellen, und welche Rolle öffentliche Information bei der Erreichung der Ziele spielt.
The excellence initiative aroused a debate about what top performance and excellent institutions in science actually are. Based on the central critera in the „competition for excellence“ (visibility, quality, internationality and gender equality), the question arises to what the methodical problems in the implementation are and which role public information does have to reach the goals.
L'initiative d'excellence a provoqué un débat sur la question de ce que représentent les performances de pointe et que sont les institutions excellentes dans les sciences. A l'aide des critères les plus importantes dans le concours d'excellence (visibilité, qualité, internationalité, et égalité des sexes) on s'interroge sur les problèmes qui pourront se presenter lors de la mise en oeuvre et quel rôle à attributer à l'information publique pour atteindre les buts.
