Abstract
The stories of Sennacherib, Esarhaddon, and Ashurbanipal have all the ingredients of epic tragedy. Selena Wisnom has written and staged two plays about these kings and witnessed the power of these narratives to engage people with the world of ancient Assyria. The paper deals with the author’s experiences and the potential for theatre to bring ancient Mesopotamia to new audiences.
