Abstract
AUVs – Autonomous Underwater Vehicles have reached a state of maturity that allows bringing them into applications beyond research. Still being a new “toy” in the toolbox for offshore work the market is somewhat reluctant to employ these robots due to missing field prove. This paper gives an overview about the state of the art of applications and technology and finalizes in a recent example, dmonstrating autonomy and robustness.
Zusammenfassung
AUVs – Autonomous Underwater Vehicles haben einen technischen Stand erreicht, der es erlaubt, in industrielle Anwendungen eingeführt zu werden. Als neues ,,Spielzeug“ im Umfeld der Offshore Industrie sind Einsätze dieser Technologie jedoch nicht weit verbreitet. Es fehlt u. a. der Nachweis der Zuverlässigkeit im täglichen Einsatz. Dieser Beitrag gibt einen Überblick über den Stand der Technik und Anwendungen und schließt mit einem eindrucksvollen Beispiel einer Stolleninspektion.

Product Manager Unmanned Underwater Vehicles, graduated in 1992 from the University of Braunschweig (Germany) with emphasis on aerospace engineering. Since 1999 he is working on UUVs. His experience covers in depth system design and technologies for autonomous behaviour.
