Abstract
A third addendum to Schneider and Wynne’s (2007) “A synoptic review of the classification of red algal genera a half century after Kylin’s 1956 ‘Die Gattungen der Rhodophyceen’” is presented, covering the names of genus- and higher-level taxa added or modified since our second addendum (Bot. Mar. 56: 111–118). In this addendum, we add 39 new genera and 11 new families from the past 3 years.
About the authors

Michael J. Wynne is Professor Emeritus at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and Curator of Algae, Emeritus, in the University of Michigan Herbarium. His research interests have been centered mostly on marine red algae. His book “The red algal families Delesseriaceae and Sarcomeniaceae” was published in 2014. He has produced periodic revisions of his “A checklist of benthic marine algae of the tropical and subtropical Western Atlantic”.

Craig W. Schneider is the Charles A. Dana Professor of Biology at Trinity College in Hartford, CT, USA. He received his PhD. under Richard B. Searles at Duke University in 1975. He has extensively studied the floras of the southeastern USA and Bermuda, recently using molecular-assisted alpha taxonomy.
